Welcome!
The centre is situated behind Strawberry Howe with prime views across to Skiddaw and Grasmoor fells. The land used to be the playing fields for the old Grammar School which have been transformed into a shared facility for rugby, tennis, football and most recently archery.
A licensed bar and function room are also available for hire.
The Grasmoor Sports Centre was formed when the Rugby, Tennis and Football clubs joining forces to qualify for a Sport England Lottery Grant with which to purchase the land and create the centre building.
The centre faced closure a few years ago... in the face of this, a new 'rescue-committee' came together, made up of those who wished to help avert its permanent closure and sell-off. We are pleased to report that the centre is still going strong with the facility in demand for the use of sport and community functions for which it was created.
A big "thank you!" goes out to all those who have helped us and currently help us to retain a superb facility for people of Cockermouth and surrounding areas.
The centre is run by a steering committee of volunteers who meet every two weeks. The steering committee oversee the various aspects of the club from finance, grounds/pitch maintenance, up-and-coming functions and assist in the smooth running of all club activity at the centre.
The emphasis of the centre is for equal promotion of all clubs and to this end we endeavour to have permanent representatives from all clubs present on the steering committee.
The Archery Club is based at Grasmoor and they go from strength to strength. They are a valuable addition to Grasmoor and their presence is very much welcomed.
